Stephen Chen, Aumnie Asia’s Director
Aumnie is Canadian born and raised in Shanghai. A true global citizen.
Fitting:
Assessing patterns.
We tend to gear away from flashy prints and seasonal cuts. Classic styles are always safe and preferable although a few risky designs here and there wouldnt hurt as well.
With Yoga, the focal point is always at the back.
Aumnie classic collection
Instant favorite
I hate wearing black for Yoga. (Except for bottoms). It makes me feel like Im projecting dark energy somehow, besides outside my yoga wear Im often already in black and white. I might as well spike it up when Im wearing Aumnie and go wild with colors.
Aumnie is bringing sexy “back”
Notice the length (it falls down all the way to the pelvis, thats what we requested for most designs) it prevents unnecessary distractions caused by the yoga pants effect
AUMNIE MANILA WILL BE AVAILABLE IN SELECTED YOGA STUDIOS BY MARCH 2013
Done with the shopping, now for the practice.
Sponsored at Anna Maya yoga studio and Vegan restaurant
Located at Shanghai’s french concession, Anna Maya is japanese owned. The three floor vegan restaurant and yoga studio is probably the most soulful shalla Ive seen so far.
Beetroot with wasabi
Mushroom plate
Tofu chocolate cheesecake; Yes tofu as dessert, you’d be amazed how delish it is when worked up right
Apple pie
Russian yogi in Shanghai. Heard he was celibate too.
We also visited another famous yoga studio in the area:
Largest yoga brand in Shanghai
A lot of criticism have been thrown at the practice for being too commercial. Studios like Pure and Y+ franchising branches like fastfood all over asia, people are now wondering if yoga has just become another fitness craze.
Well either way, any yoga is better than no yoga. I started out with superficial reasons, but as I continued on, I was opened up to the real benefits of the asanas and pranayama beyond what the naked eye could see.
International crew of yoga teachers
Instant proud pinoy, Our very own astangee Bela is conducting workshops in teh Paris of Asia
Post practice with Aumnie’s Executive Assistant, Cecille Fagot
Y+ flow studio
The teacher we had (no photo during actual class coz it was not allowed) was fella, http://www.felayoga.com/
Slow flow with focus on proper alignment (Iyengar +Vinyasa). Good class, left the studio feeling more alive than when I entered.
I was pleasantly surprised that a lot of students wore Aumnie to class too.
Considering taking Teachers Training in Shanghai eventually
I love Shanghai’s cold weather but India will always be the destination for any serious yogi. Im considering training in both locations. Iyengar and Ashtanga–maybe Ashtanga in India and Iyengar in China as the latter seems to be well executed in Shanghai.
