Aumnie Shanghai, the making

Aumnie is Canadian born and raised in Shanghai. A true global citizen. Fitting: We tend to gear away from flashy prints and seasonal cuts. Classic styles are always safe and preferable although a few risky designs here and there wouldnt hurt as well. I hate wearing black for Yoga. (Except for bottoms). It makes me feel like Im projecting dark energy somehow, besides outside my yoga wear Im often already in black and white. I … Read the rest

Shanghai musings

Ive always had a love-hate relationship with the Paris of the east, the pearl of the orient. I love the cold, but always hurt myself with its icy atmosphere. I respected the hard work its people relentlessly devote to economic progress but lamented the cost their sacrifice entailed. Today Beijing is at a critical level of air pollution. About 60% are infected with lung disease, word has it that the city may be evacuated and … Read the rest

Mushroom field tour

It wasnt the most convenient of days for a roadtrip, but it isnt everyday youre invited to a mushroom farm. So we obliged.   JJ Ortoll, (below) our friend from the local organic market owns the farm (Ministry of Mushrooms) and was kind enough to give us a tour. JJ really gave us the blow by blow information on how to farm mushrooms. I lost most of the details to thin air but got the … Read the rest

Yoga for the masses

We drove early Sunday for a Yogathon in response to an invitation Donna recieved from co-yoga teacher, Dennis.       The Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), true its name prides itself for this scenic view we indulged in. The style of yoga we joined in was Hatha Yoga, which means anything goes. A welcome break from our usual Vinyasa Flow routine. Yoga and the Vegan way of life have officially gone … Read the rest

Sleeping around in the club

I have a silly habit of dozing off amidst all the partying going-on in the club. Never realizing until now that it  provokes the wrong kind of curiosity among men. Ive been jolted up rudely several times by all too eager boys, asking me really rhetorical questions like; “Why are you sleeping?” Some even thought it was my “game” to seem “mysterious” and “stand-out.” Others just assumed I was wasted. No one thought the obvious, … Read the rest

Bliss Yoga Teachers Training; 30 days, 200 hours.

Three months into my Vinyasa yoga practice and already I had the guts to apply for Teachers Training. No second thoughts, only a prayer [Bliss Yoga] that they would they me in. They did. I was the baby of the group, being the second youngest with the least experience practicing the Asanas (Poses), nevertheless I didnt feel the handicap. That’s the beauty of Yoga, no one’s ever too good or too lame for it. … Read the rest

Poison Halloween, 2012

Ive always wanted to portray Poison Ivy. Even when I wasnt vegetarian, (I was ten years old then) I was already drawn to her vines.

Cocogreen’s vegan favorites!

Vegans have the most discriminating taste buds, simply because of their palate sensitivity. The absence of meat has trained their sense of taste overtime to recognize even the most subtle hints of flavor. Which is why it’s important for any caterer, chef or cook to understand that the gauge in which vegetarians will judge a dish is not the same as that of regular customers. My mom being none-vegetarian for instance, will gear towards strong … Read the rest

Breathing Chi: the basics of Pranic healing

“You are undertaking a spiritual journey, but like a fool you need someone to lead you” Saids the reader of Angel cards at the OHM event, (https://www.weizelgulfan.com/energy-yoga-raw-food-heal-om-festival-2012/). True enough, My mom set me up to take Pranic healing, a contemporary type of energy healing not very different from Qigong  and Reiki. It’s where you learn to balance out one’s aura or energy field which has a direct impact on a person’s mental, emotional and physical state. … Read the rest

Sunday feast at the Harekrishna temple

What do Bliss Yoga babies do on a lazy Sunday? Hunt for free food! So when we were invited for a vegetarian buffet by our Harikrishna friends, we jumped at the chance.   We purchased the vegetarian burger (P30), vegetarian cookies (P50) and the pita breads (P50) later on. Donna loved them all but I only like the vegetarian patties and the pita bread as the cookies had milk which ended up ruining my stomach. … Read the rest
